“Then Samuel said to the people, “It is the Lord who appointed Moses and Aaron and brought your ancestors up out of Egypt. Now then, stand here, because I am going to confront you with evidence before the Lord as to all the righteous acts performed by the Lord for you and your ancestors.” 1 Samuel 12.6-7

It’s easy to look at our current political climate and seek answers. We want to know: Why is inflation so high? Why are the borders open? Why is there distrust with other nations? Why is employment high, and why is there the threat of war on many fronts? Is it because our leaders are promising answers without really delivering?

While politicians on both sides often fail us by making promises they either never fulfill or never clearly explain, the prophet Samuel did nothing of the sort. When he gathered all of Israel, he sat them down and said plainly, “Now I am going to confront you with evidence before the Lord as to all the righteous acts performed by the Lord for you and your ancestors.”

Why was this important? Because they needed to remember. They needed to know and to see that the Lord was faithful. While other nations lived in sin and their new king would be a failure, the Lord alone was a faithful God. He wasn’t just faithful once or twice; He was faithful in the past, faithful in the present, and would be faithful in the future.

Samuel then offers a lengthy discourse on exactly how God was faithful, beginning with the story of Aaron and Moses, who led their ancestors out of captivity in Egypt. Read verses 8–11, which give further evidence of God’s enduring faithfulness.

Humans will fail us, and we often fail ourselves. But God is faithful. Politicians make false promises, change their stories, or tell us what we want to hear—but the Lord is consistent, unfailing, and always faithful. No matter the circumstance or situation, God is with us.

The question, then, is this: Are we with God? Have we placed our trust in His hands? Have we surrendered our lives, our will, and our desires to the God who has been faithful in the past and will be faithful in the future?

Turn to the Lord today in prayer. Receive Jesus as Lord. Confess your sins. Call upon the name of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—the Lord who made you, created you, and has been with you since day one.

“O Lord God, You are good. In my faults, I find faithfulness in You. Come now, Holy Spirit, and fill me with Your love. Help me know that You are good in all things. Even when my love fails, Your love remains steadfast. For You are good, and Your love endures forever.” Amen
